1. THE ROLE OF THE INSTITUTE OF MALTESE JOURNALISTS

Conscious of the fundamental right of information and of preserving the freedom of the News Media (both print and broadcast / electronic), The Institute of Maltese Journalists shall endeavour to upgrade the character of the Maltese News Media in accordance with the highest professional standards by providing a structure to:

1.1 enhance the ability of our members as professional journalists through the establishment of a Continuous Professional Development Scheme (CPD);

1.2 achieve professional status for journalists;

1.3 represent and defend the rights of journalists where freedom of information and the News Media are concerned;

1.4 provide opportunities for journalists to meet and exchange views and ideas;

1.5 offer a range of services of professional and personal benefit to members.
